John Steiner is a natural power pop purveyor, maestro, provocateur and all around polymath. The books of the future that document the scenes of the present will wax nostalgic poetics about his work in Satan Wriders, contributions to Baseball Gregg, Dark Tea and countless other acts, offshoots and assorted artistic outlets. Steiner's current central creative outfit Boy Romeo just announced the new album Pure Soul arriving on Valentine's Day (February 14 via Z Tapes), rolling out the debut viewing of the video for the lead single "Let's Roll". Filmed and directed by the esteemed Eli Wengrin, shot on location at Week in Pop, HQ’s rooftop in Potrero Hill, San Francisco — the Boy Romeo style, aesthetic and sound is seen ringing out in a lively manner from the mountaintops for the entire metropolises, towns, countrysides and the entire world to enjoy and behold with a whimsical sense of wonder and jubilation.

Taking it from the sweet concrete streets to the top of the hill; Boy Romeo’s “Let’s Roll” lets the good times ride high on the wings of joie de vivre. In a blend of mixed media animation depicting the band cruising about the city with a vibrant sunflower motif, Steiner and crew takeover the Week in Pop tower top to create their own Savile Row, Apple Records moment. From their pop art construction paper created avatars cruising the world to basking in the sequences of sunset, the onset of twilight to dusk found in the backdrop of a warm San Francisco eve. Finding the perfect upbeat artistic visual tonal touches to match the timbre of track's classic ode to beach bound symphonies to G-d — the Boy Romeo collective of friends beam brightly with a spirit lifting sensation of inspirational wanderlust affinities. With a sincerely sewn audio couture that soars higher than the stratospheres of a seagull; Boy Romeo rolls like the electric harmonies whirling with wonder from a technicolor turbine.

John Steiner of Boy Romeo shared the following reflections on the new single, the new Z Tapes album Pure Soul and the making of the visual for “Let’s Roll”:

“Let’s Roll” is the first single off Pure Soul, the new Boy Romeo record. I wrote the song as a tribute to the Beach Boys and a testament to the joys of MDMA.

I recorded this song and the rest of the record back in May at Earthtone Studios. My good friends Patrick Shelley, Cooper Coffroth and Claire Tauber play drums, keys, and bass respectively, and their top notch performances really give the song that much-coveted pizzaz.

Hearing “Let’s Roll” now reminds me of California—recently I moved to Chicago, and having lived in  Northern California all my life, I feel like I can only truly appreciate my home state now that I’m away.

Eli Wengrin filmed the track’s music video on the Week in Pop headquarters rooftop back in June, a few days before I left California. Eli graced the song with his cinematography and animation, adding the perfect amount of suburbadelic campiness. Sjimon: the gracious manner with which you welcome us into your home feels like family. Thanks for everything!

Boy Romeo’s album Pure Soul will be available February 14 via Z Tapes Records while the single “Let’s Roll” is available everywhere.
