PREMIERE Blu Miller, "Strawberry Moon"

Lunar longings date back to the origin of time. The counter point antithesis to the sun’s radiating reflective opposite, it is a source of emanating energy with its varying degrees of luster and cadence. The moon moves our tides, possesses near magical powers to modulate our moods, clocking the cycles inherent to all forms of living matter. It lights up the night for all to see, sending down a subdued solar shower of galactic light.

A million things from thousands and thousands of miles away we wished we could ask of that ancient, great natural satellite high up in the celestial skies. That great illuminous rock and all of its many guises and hues that shift in the spaces that shine between twilight and daylight. A force that assists in the structures and constructs of all calendar centered considerations.

It is in this meditative mindset that we find heartland musician Blu Miller’s lullaby “Strawberry Moon”. The follow-up to the recent single “Stay High” gazes with a wondrous reverence upon the fleeting spells cast by a rare moon that arrives annually in all of its rosé washed splendor and glow. Featured off the forthcoming album Bask in the Wonder recorded by Sam Weber, engineered by Mario Ramirez, with support from Danny Austin Manning, and Tejas Leier Heyden at Anjuna Recording Studio: Miller builds off their family's own Eden, Wisconsin musical legacy to pen hymns for modern day mesmerizations and mindful meditations.

"Strawberry Moon" swings sweetly as a late evening song for the rare sanguine saturated source of the evening's understated and entrancing light. Miller and associates orchestrate an understated arrangement where subtle percussion moves carefully plucked chords, and keys into the baroque arms of strings that sweep the listener to the stratospheres between earth and the cosmos. The moving melodies and arranges invoke the sense of inner inquiries and observational thought lines that are expanded into realized orchestrals where bedroom pop beatitudes blossom into symphonic set pieces suited for the most opulent operatic stages. And through the illustrious arrangement Blu Miller threads through a sense of unbound wonder.

From the solitude of night to the infinite expanses of the outer spaces, Miller delivers a pop prayer for the sky sailing dreamers that watch the constellations with a sense of awe and aspiration. “Strawberry Moon” basks in the moment where instinct and other such corners of the unconscious are illuminated by the enthralling sight of a June Moon. What farmers and sky watchers throughout history have called a Honey Moon, Mead Moon, Birth Moon, Hatching Moon, Egg Laying Moon, and many other synonyms pertaining to the advent of new life is further mythologized through Blu's conversation and communion with the season signaling event. “Moon” illustrates the impact of phenomena that blossom in the edges of the temporal, a reverence for those gifts offered by ancient entities that resonates with deeper meanings and implications that reverberate and invigorate endless inspirations for all seasons.

Blu Miller offered the following reflections on the inspiration behind the new single:

“Strawberry Moon” started as a question:

“What would I say if the moon could actually hear me?”

I wrote this song in one sitting, under a full strawberry moon in late June, the kind that only comes once a year and stays whole for a single night. Watching pink light spill like silver spoons over a forest of pines, I felt as if I were witnessing something ancient say farewell. By early morning, it was gone, the way an old friend leaves before you realize it may be the last time you'll be together.

“Strawberry Moon” by Blu Miller is available now.

Bask in the Wonder arrives November 20.
