The creative trend of surrendering to the natural realm has become something of a common motif in our current common era. In an epoch obsessed with trivial tech chips, authoritarian aspirations, artificial intellectualism, the unholy triumvirates of autocracies, corporatocracies, technocracies and the like: the move to unplug and reconnect to tangible realities feels more prescient and urgent than ever before. We look to the infinite expanses offered by the world outdoors, we want to touch grass, and wade in the waters of streams, lakes, pools, and the beaches that line the edges of oceanic bodies.

Meditating on these great escapes is Sam Burchfield with the debut of “Green and Blue”. The Jasper, Georgia by way of Seneca, South Carolina artist delivers the latest from a series of mindful pop pastorals like “One More Setting Sun”, and “Leave the Light On” that sing of ecological cycles that blend heartfelt narratives of humanities with the physical and psychical sciences. Burchfield brings a song that searches for those elusive exits from the noise and bustle of mandated business routines and choreographed chaos that keeps the consciousness endlessly churning like an industrial grade factory cog in an outdated machine. As the choruses and clamors reach heightened decibels that refuse to be muted or softened in their regressive rhetoric; Sam shows us that a better and greener world—one that is bathed in azure imbued elements of sky and sea—is possible.

"Green and Blue" coasts into the ethereal atmospheres in the hopes to ascend above the weariness of the manufactured and material worlds. Sam Burchfield presents the pursuit to return to the lush lands and wondrous waters that are the holistic foundations beyond the constructs and contrivances society has built and synthesized from the planet’s array of illustrious and prodigious elements. Burchfield reflects on the things that occupy our time as diversions from spending our lives in communion with the foliage and fauna that abound beyond the expanses of the concrete covered city limits.

The serene and wistful song elegantly rides on the wings of desire to the places where the biological forces can play with minimal intervention from the dictated decrees of robber barons and bad faith civic actors with their pollutant proposals of data centers, factory farming, and other such environmental antagonisms. Sam makes a run from these corrosive communities that have become a part of the status quo of so-called civilized modern society, and imagines an enlightened existence among the healing organic properties that remind us of the inherent beauty that can be found un-obscured by the plastic and digital dominance that play outsized rolls in the grind of our daily lives.
