PREMIERE Elly Kace, "Dust"

Peering through the viewfinder portal into the stories of the temporal, metaphors and allegories best express the epitome of impermanence. The bleary-eyed balladry that reckons with the passing time as dust in the wind, the psalm of chaff in the breeze, tumbleweeds, tumbling dice, balladeers lamenting that gradual—yet inevitable—gravity of loss through grandiose center stage song soliloquys on the finite nature of mortality.

These comparative and imaginative expressions help us to better understand both the things that are fleeting, as well as what remains. The temporary and infinite both can be hard to fully comprehend, or articulate in a cohesive manner. The process of poetics, illustrative language, to the omnipotent power of unbridled expression and testimonial from the heart and spirit bridges the divide between the flash of a moment and the edges of the endless, and ongoing. This is “Dust”, the new single single from the Brooklyn-based artist Elly Kace. Following the ethereal and intimate stratosphere cloud streaks of “Pink Sky”, the classically trained singer provides the latest pop visions from the upcoming album The Seventh Gate. The new song centers around the sentiments of a love lost, the things are taken away, indelibly altered, as well as the discoveries that are left behind in its wake.

“Dust” serenely sweeps into the sound frame with a sense of understated reverence. Elly’s hums are spun into rhythm loops that set the scene with grace and gratitude to the dear ones that have made an impact and impression upon us, only to exit the stages of our lives as quick as they arrived. The ashes to ashes paradigm is applied to the aftermath of what is left after the most brilliant of blazes runs their course and becomes extinguished. Kace casts melodic scales of thought that gaze serenely, sincerely, and dearly, in hindsight at the incidental drifters that have the ability to change heads and hearts.

The nostalgic yearning wades through the ways in which others transform and inspire growth in manners that are otherwise unknown. Elly walks through the crumbled Greco-Roman marble corridor ruins of situationships and other such amorous guests. Amid the ash and rubble, “Dust” reveals what we discover about others, the world, and the otherwise obfuscated amphitheaters of the inner self. The mix walks through the previous places and former feelings shared by estranged attachments, currently resigned to the all but abandoned far recesses of consciousness. Elly Kace traces the cycles of those that were never meant to be like incendiary sparks that burn and dissolve like glowing embers being sanded down to soot (swept into the stirring embrace of a new morning’s air).

Elly offered the following reflections on “Dust”:

Not every relationship is meant to last. Most of them come into our lives to teach us our most important lessons and then vanish. “Dust” conjures pure, healing violent flames to dissolve the pains of the past to ashes and allow us to rise anew.
