Foliage visionary Manuel Joseph Walker is on the rise as one of California’s most formidable and prolific talents. Releasing some of the most mind, heart and spirit lifting music since the San Bernadino-based artist’s youth; Manuel has increasingly been focusing on the production sides of things. A talent that can perfectly emulate your favorite DIY bedroom guitar geared heroes from the college charts of today and decades back; Walker is sharpening his focus on styles sourced from a plethora of directions. From 808 beat botanicals, ambient ethereal offerings, chamber champagne pop to kinetic discotheque dalliances.

Fresh off the tour circuit with fellow luminaries Hibou (see all of our photo coverage here), we present the premiere of Foliage’s “Can’t Go Anywhere” (Club Mix) accompanied by a Week in Pop video interview exclusive. The original track perfectly sums up our lives in the quarantine mode, locked in the confines of our own spaces and left with our own thoughts of a new better world, a new and better life, full of new, better and more meaningful exchanges with others. Just as the source material seeks for something beyond the mundane and menial claptrap jargon of unprecedented circumstances and mindless talk of the new normal — the Club Mix opens up a new level of catharsis in returning to the dark and dusty dives and dance halls that rejuvenate the human spirit among the company of fellow friends, acquantances, contemporaries and everyone.

“Can’t Go Anywhere” Club Mix brings the big beats and the thundering bass to elevate the track for living room dance parties, chic boutiques, warehouses and everywhere. Walker’s reworking of the track manages to unpack and undo the very title of the song, an anthem for being stuck at home that suddenly becomes exploded by the big four on the floor percussion and laser effect treatments. A song originally written in solidarity and solemnity for great world implosion of post-2020 becomes a track of sentimental jubilation. The Club Mix is properly fit to be enjoyed with close ones, loved ones, besties, new buddies, colleagues, family members or simply a street stepping banger to stroll to in time with the rhythms. Manuel made a song for when we could not go anywhere at all and has now revised it in a remix that is suited to be experienced anywhere you can possibly imagine.

Foliage’s “Can’t Go Anywhere” (Club Mix) is available now everywhere.
